Oceanport is in eastern Monmouth County, at the head of the Shrewsbury River. It was one of the country˙s major ports in the 1830s, and it became a strong shipping link between the country and New York, serving the farmers of the area and the Howell Iron Works of James Allaire. Oceanport was incorporated in 1920. The world-famous Monmouth Park Racetrack and his historic Fort Monmouth are located here in Oceanport.
