Rumson Borough is situated on the neck of land which separates of Shrewsbury and Navesink Rivers. Rumson takes its name from the native American word, Navrumsunk. The town was settled in 1665 and incorporated in 1907. Rumson began primarily as an agricultural community which evolved to a favored location for some of the area˙s wealthiest residents. Some of Rumson˙s homes were, and are to this day, among the country˙s most spectacular. Rumson is known today for its upscale neighborhoods and as home to some of the most affluent people in the state.
