Shrewsbury Borough is one of the oldest settlements in Monmouth County. Originally part of Shrewsbury Township, it was separated in 1926. The village center became a State Historic District in 1976 then a National Historic District in 1978. Shrewsbury Borough retains much of its charm with its colonial architecture and huge sycamore trees while providing all the modern conveniences that any homeowner may desire.
